getting stuck into one of my readings for this semester (madness explained by richard bentall) and i’m absolutely loving it so far! there’s a real focus on how modern-day issues relating to mental illness (stigma, diagnosis, treatment, implications, etc) are deep rooted in the very first explanations of ill mental health.
my first lecture is next week and i’m SO excited to get back to work. i’ve got so many exciting things coming up this semester (my modules are amazing and i can finally get my research kickstarted!)
okay today i learned that apparently the penis has a say in whether or not a child will be a boy or a girl
female sperm swims slower than male sperm, but the males can’t swim for as long as the females. this means that a long penis will be closer to the egg when releasing the sperm, and there will be a higher chance for the child to be a boy.
"1. Take a morning shower filled with loud and upbeat music.
2. Surround myself with positive people.
3. Stop degrading myself based on how others look, I’m beautiful in my own way.
4. Allow myself to be sad when I️ feel it, it’ll be okay, the sun will return soon.
5. Laugh. A lot.
6. Take bubble baths to calming music.
7. Read.
8. Open the windows and let the air in."
Watch HOW TO DEAL WITH BAD EMOTIONS IN A HEALTHY WAY here.
We all have those days where we just want to wrap up in our blanket and escape the world. No matter how strong we are, no matter how organised, how focused, how successful - everyone has bad days. Before I start to talk you through the routine which helps me to handle an emotional down, I want you to know one thing:
Feeling bad is not a sign of weakness. It is not a sign of failing in whatever you are trying to achieve. Its a sign that you are an emotional being which is capable of a huge variety of different feelings. In other words: you don’t have a heart made of stone. Being vulnerable is a sign that you are human. It’s okay to feel like that, it’s okay to want to escape once in a while and its okay to just be in a bad mood sometimes. You will be alright - whatever you are facing right now, those four steps will help you feel better immediately.
1. Put all the pressure aside.
Stop with everything that stresses you, clear out your To Do List for today.
You are #1 priority now, everything else can wait.
Disconnect from social media and your phone in general.
2. Cleanse yourself from the outside.
Shower or take a hot bath.
Do all kinds of beauty rituals that make you feel good about yourself (shave your legs, apply a face mask, do your eyebrows, paint your nails etc.)
Clean your surrounding: tidy up your room, declutter, sort out things you don’t need, go through your wardrobe etc.)
Prepare for the next day (pack your bag, chose your outfit etc.)
3. Cleanse yourself from the inside.
Disconnect from others (NOT in a negative way - if talking helps you, talk) but don’t surround yourself with people which make you feel like you need to be in a good mood right now. Don’t feel forced to explain yourself to anyone, but rather connect to your inner self.
Disconnect from the problem. push it as far away as possible and get calm in your mind.
Do things that are good for you. Meditate, do yoga, journal, light some candles, breathe - if you are “just” annoyed, sick of sth, having a bad day. Distract yourself in terms of watching a movie or reading a book - if you are upset, sad, hurt. Note: Always prefer to connect with yourself and stop consuming if you can, because thats what will get you into alignment with yourself again and therefore is the fastest way out of your negative emotions.
Get into a state of gratitude. Find things you are grateful for and things you can look forward to the next day.
4. Go to bed early.
Sleep is the best medicine. You will feel energised the next day.
Grant your body and your mind some rest.
Don’t try to solve any of your problems at night before going to bed.
Trust that tomorrow will be a new, better day.
If you take those steps as a checklist, I promise you feel better afterwards. The most important thing is to be kind to yourself. Don’t judge yourself for being in a bad place, treat yourself like you would treat a friend: with a lot of understanding, compassion and love.
Ok gorgeous, I really hope that this was helpful for you. If you need somebody to talk to - I would be more than happy to hear from you. Send me a message and I’ll listen to whatever bothers you and will do my best to make you feel better.
You are amazing, loved and beautiful, never forget that. Also, watch the video to feel better.
